Use a steady crawl when you want a clean wake, or mix in pauses and short twitches when fish are following.
The pause is important because many surface strikes happen when the lure stops escaping and looks easy to catch.
It is strongest around low light, calm pockets, weed edges, rock walls, drains, shallow flats, and bait schools near the top.
